ATTENDANCE / PARTICIPATION:
Educational progress is a result of regular attendance, so students are expected to be in class on time and prepared in accordance with the JHS attendance policy.  Students will be awarded ten points for each day of class. Three points will be deducted if the student is tardy (less than 10 min.), seven points will be deducted if the student is way-late (10-30 min.), and no points will be earned if the student is more than 30 minutes late or unexcused absence.
Cooperative learning is a vital part of the educational process.  Students are expected to participate in class discussions and activities.  There will be many times throughout the year when students will be expected work in groups or pairs and will be encouraged to contribute to the learning of their classmates.  Points will be deducted for off-task behavior.

Daily Warm-ups:
There will be daily warm-ups given each lab period.  Warm-ups will be at the beginning of each lab -- if a student has an unexcused tardy or absence, s/he will lose the opportunity to make-up the warm-up.  Students are expected to be in class on-time to work on all warm-ups.  Warm-ups missed from excused absences must be made up within one week.

Homework:
The Calculus AB Lab provides help and support for the Calculus AB class.   A majority of the lab class will be spent working on calculus homework, but the homework will be collected in class.  The homework score calculated in the Calculus class will be 60% of the grade for this lab class.

In this class, you will be expected to take advantage of the Early Enrichment schedule. The ways we will use the time in the morning are as follows:
  • If you have a NG in this class, you will be expected to do your attendance school make-up on scheduled “early enrichment” days or after school, doing the work you missed (including make-up tests).   Also, if you have a grade below a C-, it will be required that you schedule a time to work with me on improving your grade.

Anything not addressed in this disclosure will be handled on an individual basis.

Cell Phone Policy: Each student needs to understand that cell phone use during class is not allowed at any time unless permission is given by the teacher to use for special circumstances.  This includes making calls, receiving calls, any type of text messaging, picture taking, etc.  It is expected that cell phones will be turned off (not just on vibrate) and put away during class time.  If a student violates this policy they will be asked to give up their cell phone to the teacher for the remainder of class for the first offense, and if a second offense occurs the cell phone will be confiscated and given to an administrator.  iPods, MP3 players, etc. are permitted while a student is working on his/her assignment as long as it does not disrupt the classroom.  Otherwise the result in the same actions as described above.

NOTE TO PARENTS/GUARDIANS:  I will keep the information on Skyward as current as possible, so you can keep an eye on your student’s progress and grade.  Please review your student’s grades and attendance periodically through the Jordan High School website.
